Roofing

Local Sunnyvale homeowner needed a licensed roofing contractor.

In a heartwarming turn of events, a homeowner in Sunnyvale found himself in need of a licensed roofing company (check a license here). The narrative took a concerning twist when the 91-year-old homeowner was approached by an unlicensed roofing contractor. This resulted in an attempt to extract an illegal $5,000 deposit and an additional $5,000 for materials. Both are against California law. Thankfully, the homeowner’s vigilant son intervened upon noticing unusual withdrawals from his father’s bank account. Arriving in California, he halted a potential $10,000 withdrawal instructed by the dubious contractor, averting further financial loss. Recognizing the need for expert assistance, the son reached out to Home Pro, seeking a reputable, licensed contractor to rectify the situation and ensure a proper installation of a new roof.

PER CSLB (Contractors State License Board): REMEMBER The down payment cannot be more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, for a home improvement job or swimming pool, excluding finance charges. There are no exceptions for special-order materials.

Beware of Unlicensed Contractor

The first challenge was the unlicensed contractor had taken many shortcuts. Firstly, they did not pull a building permit, secondly, they did not tear off the existing roof, and lastly, they were roofing over the existing roofing material. The final blow was they delivered two different color roofing materials to the job.

Choose a Licensed Roofing Contractor

Home Pro evaluated his needs and recommended a GAF Timberline Reflective Shingle series (that is Title 24 Compliant) to keep the home cool in the summer. Our solution was a complete roof tear-off, install a new roof deck, install Tiger Paw Roofing Underlayment, and install a new GAF Composition Shingle. Finally, complete the system with Cobra Roof Ventilation to keep the attic cooler to prolong the life of the shingle. Notice the Cobra Ridge Vent at the top of the roof.
